The Query Letter:

Dear Agent,

Sure, Sophie’s adopted, but her life is pretty average. She loves iced hot cocoa, her friends, and her moms (even when they make heart eyes at each other). The one thing that’s not average? Her moms are vampires. Honestly, it’s kind of cool, and Sophie knows this family is exactly where she belongs. Now she just has to convince a social worker.

Because something weird is going on with the vampires in town. Her friend, Mike, and his entire family were taken to a holding facility. Mike’s vampire dad went rogue and attacked a human, but Sophie just saw Mike’s dad picking up synthetic blood from the store and he was totally normal. It must be something in the new, government-made synthetic blood. But before Sophie can warn her parents, her Mama goes rogue.

There has to be an antidote, and Sophie’s sure it’s at the holding facility. Enlisting her best friend, a 300-year-old vampire stuck in a tweenager’s body, Sophie breaks in to find the cure—and free Mike. It seems like it might work…until it doesn’t. When the alarms go off, Sophie has to make the hardest decision of her not-so-average life: expose a conspiracy and stop a mad scientist to free Mike…or grab the cure for Mama and save her family.

INTO THE LIGHT—if Stranger Things starred vampires, with the feels of The Girl Who Drank The Moon —is a standalone work of Upper Middle Grade Mystery with a touch of the supernatural, and series potential. It’s complete at 48,000 words.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
